We have liftoff!

Sustain'd Logo

That’s right, Sustain’d is a go! It is officially launched as of this morning, off on its journey to find a life of its own. Sustain’d is what you make of it. I hope it becomes a good resource for the online LDS community to find, promote, and access good, interesting LDS content. Blog posts, web pages, GA quotes, conference talks, photo pages, whatever.

If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, [Sustain'd] seek[s] after these things.

To get started and participate in Sustain’d, you’ll want to do two things. First, create an account. Once you’ve done that, you’ll want to add a link to your blogs and web pages that will let people sustain your stuff straight from the source!

Your feedback and participation is welcomed and appreciated. I’m excited to see how this project turns out.

Can I sustain a story on a blog that doesn’t have your link?

Yep, use the link at the top of the site to “Submit a story” and you can enter in the URL.

Ah, I came in through the blog, so it wasn’t obvious.

I think at the beginning here we are seeing blatant abuse as some are just putting up their own blog posts. The idea of a program like this is to promote stories that you genuinely find interesting/exceptional. If what you are writing is truly worthwhile, you should expect that others will want to “sustain” you.

Besides, just how often do you see someone who is conducting a meeting sustain himself?

Looks great so far. Like the new icon as well. So Mormonesque, short sleeved shirt and everything.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I’ll be the official dumb question asker here. If you nominate a site, can/should you also sustain it?

And, I hope that people will continue to nominate specific posts, rather than whole blogs, since I’m more interested in seeing the interesting posts, rather than trying to pick through the whole blog.

And one more dumb question. This morning I thought I saw a way to see who had sustained an entry, but this morning I don’t see that. I don’t mean the spy thing on the side, I thought that there was a way to see a list for each nomination of votes.

That’s not a dumb question at all… Yes, you “can” sustain a post that you submit. Whether you want to or not is your own choice - I don’t see a problem with it.

And yes, one should link to a direct post, not to the main blog, to target specific content.

If you click on the “discuss” or “3 comments” link (or whatever number of comments it has) you will see a section at the bottom where you can find out who has sustained that post. Anonymous people can also sustain, and since they don’t have a user account, their name won’t show up there.

Great questions!

Thanks for the help!

It appears that some requests for sustaind.org are returning DNS errors. For example, I can access sustaind.org through some proxies, but not through my ISP (Comcast) directly. To access the site through my ISP, I have to use the IP address of the site. It may be worth checking with your hosting ISP to ensure that everything is set up correctly to propogate the domain name.

It looks like the DNS problem is resolved — at least for now.

. . . another suggestion: it would be nice if the big number that indicates how many persons have sustained an article were a link to the discussion page.

Welcome!

Sustain'd is a place where people can submit and "sustain" their favorite LDS-oriented web pages. Blog posts, photo pages, church articles, you name it.
