James E. Faust, a member of the First Presidency, was asked at a commemoration event in March 2005 whether the country was ready to elect a Mormon president. He answered by pointing out that John F. Kennedy won in 1960 despite prevalent anti-Catholic sentiment at the time. ``But that day came," Faust said. ``I expect that day will come for a Mormon."

Although the article is not overly "kind", I like Elder James E. Faust's quote. Yet another article from the Boston Globe.

What a strange article. About halfway through it switches from talking about how the IRS is stepping up enforcement of rules against religious political support in general and then talks about Mormon history in politics. I was expecting it to tie these two things together by saying the IRS was going after the Mormons, but it never did. So is the writer trying to tip off the IRS on the Church?

Oh, I also found it interesting the the only "prominent" Mormon politicians they mentioned were Harry Reid & Orrin Hatch. (Of course, Reid comes first due to recent scandals)

Prominent politicians who are Mormons include Senate minority leader Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, and Senator Orrin Hatch, Republican of Utah.
