It's interesting to see some people still consider the Church a cult. Notice how loose the author is with his logic and facts in citing the Church to support this statement: "For many years now, we have witnessed an explosion of cults." As an explosion describes a sudden, short-lived, immediate rise, it's curious he has to use a 176-old church to prove his point. Perhaps he's a better example of the "emergence of false teachers" he writes about.

Now go and get Meridian to stop using them as a trusted news source on the sidebar of their emails...

World Net Daily is far more a 'Wing Nut Daily' than a reliable news source

World Net Daily has long been a trusted and valuable conservative and Christian news source which is why I'm stunned about their allowing of this smear article.

I have written WND and expressed my deep concern of this editorial choice. I suggest other members of the Church do the same in an informative and respectful way. It is worth our efforts to do this in hopes that WND never does this again because WND does such good work toward worldwide Christian rights and the rights of the unborn.

With all due respect, canadiancynic's description WND reveals his antipathy toward all things conservative as stated on his own blog ("Angry Mormon Liberal" blog, October 18, 2006 entry).

You're wrong as usual, Canadiancynic. However, I think WorldNetDaily should review more carefully what they publish.

Hmmm... yes. I do have antipathy to all things conservative, usually because it is a thin veneer covering a highly developed elitism.

I find that usually regular conservatives are pretty nice people. I find that conservative leaders are just like liberal leaders, as corrupt as they come... conservatives are just more in the closet about it.

I can see your point, but are you implying that Liberalism isn't elitism. I mean Hollywood own the franchise.

LOL... Of course liberalism is elitism. The people in power behave the same if they spout Left or Right. I just find that the Right like to cover their behavior in a thin veneer of righteousness, and I admit I much prefer the Left. When you get past the cartoonish 'for the benefit of the people' proto-communist baloney I find a far more hands off approach to people's behavior. I much prefer to be under the leadership, or in the company of someone who does not have a theological imperative telling them I'm a heretic.

In other words, you prefer to go where you're accepted. It's natural, some people can't live some standards so they will look for other ones that make them feel less umcomfortable, and then refer to their former group as arrogant and elitist.

Spot on, Hhhhh.

BTW, looks like WND published an LDS member's letter to the editor regarding Laurie's article. Visit this link and scroll down to Monday, November 6th: http://worldnetdaily.com/letters.asp
