Interesting. I do appreciate multiple viewpoints on issues, I think it helps people become less polarized and it encourages insightful discussion. The thing is, insightful discussion will always present better solutions instead of solely handing destructive criticism.

I tend to dislike campaign efforts based on difamation. If there are traits of Mitt Romney that people dislike, it would be much more constructive to point out to better alternatives than bashing your opponent (e.g. if your goal is to eliminate the Mormon-Republican correlation, a campaign portraying Harry Reid would be more informative and moving to action than bashing Romney. If you're goal is to not get Romney elected, then present some other candidate of your choice and contrast his moral qualities with Romney's). Bashing does not encourage insightful conversation, neither it presents better viable alternatives.

I should state I am not set on defending Romney (in fact, I don't know who I'll support in '08), but rather pointing out the fallacy of argumentum ad hominem.

I'm smelling shades of the Smoot hearings in the media coverage of Mitt. I'm not unsympathetic to him, he has the requisite middle of the road flip-flopping that exemplifies the best of modern politics. Someone who is willing to appeal to a broad variety of people on both sides of the political spectrum has my support. We all know what 'stay the course' ended y'all up with.

I;m against Mitt, but not because I;m a democrat or a liberal or a leftist...but because I am not convinced he is truly conservative! He just oozes "politician" and his recent flip-flops on major issues are very Clintonesque.
