Hey! I'm the resident troll here. Go find your own bridge... I think you'll find few shocked by the above account... The history knowledge on this forum is well above average

Cancyn, if you're a troll, then I want you to know that you're hands-down my favorite troll anywhere. (I'm not being sarcastic--seriuosly.)

And the point is?

LOL...Hhhhh and I had a feud going on for a couple of months... I think we've got to the point of friendly banter by now, but I was pretty trollish during that... I'm reforming and only eating a few billy goats gruff now and then.

Yup, I tamed and potty-trained him :) At least he's not mean-spirited like other trolls I've n00bed before.

As for the gun, it's true that the Church doesn't publicize the fact that someone smuggled a gun and gave it to Joseph Smith Jr. To me, it makes sense, and the fact that he defended himself and his fellow inmates does not diminish his dignity.

Doesn't the new Joseph Smith movie also show him firing the gun through the door?

Sorry trwth, our troll quota is filled already. But feel free to grab some biscuits on your way out.

Un-interesting, pseudo-gotch.

Opposed.

On the general question raised, though: the Church has become increasingly jealous of its good name in recent decades, and the nuanced telling of our history has suffered for it. Which is a darn shame: the best coverts are ones fed on whole milk.

That should read "... pseudo-gotcha".

* grr *

I wish that more blogs featured the "edit comment" feature.

The Blog is called "What The Church Didn't Tell Me" - I am new to the church and thought it fitting to include post something down to earth, basic. If you know this already this post is not for your.

I am not feeling the love. I wish I had.

It's a catch-22... the subject is pretty tame, and depending on who your Sunday School or seminary teacher was, you learned this growing-up in Church. So while _you_didn't know it, it's hardly worth knowing. So that's why I opposed.

Of course, you could have talked about something salacious (accounts of polyandry, for example, among early saints), and it would have been more interesting — but may have gotten people's hackles up as being "anti-mormon".

    So it's a fine line.

And wait, am I to understand that this is your blog? If it is, it's a self-link... a no-no.

trwth, maybe I shouldn't have come so strong on you. You need to know that this site is spammed by NOM-bots every so often, so sometimes the more conservative posters (such as I) get our guard up.

Anyways, I think the name "What the Church didn't tell me" doesn't help us feel your love for the Church. Commenting about the Church can be done like John Dehlin does in MormonStories.com (good), or done in the way other more negatively critical sites do (bad).

It is nice to see so many defend the church here... now head on over to On Faith. Did any of you watch the World Report in between conference today where they reported on the church's "significant" involvement at On Faith?
