"When I first went through the temple, I really had no idea where the endowment came from. I wondered why there wasn't some kind of recorded vision or revelation in which the ordinances were revealed. . . . I've done a lot more studying since then, and it seems to me that there are roughly three basic explanations for the endowment, each of which I'd like to briefly discuss in this post."

The real value of this post is the discussion it generated. I suggest reading the comments.

For the record, I meant to oppose this post. It appears to have generated a lengthy discussion. It is good to wonder and be curious about your beliefs. As a convert, after joining the Church, I hold the temples, the House of the Lord close to my heart. To me the words of Isaiah say so much. “It shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

“And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” (Isa. 2:2–3.)
