The LDS Church's statement---"We're not out to convert Catholics"---is a bit odd, no?

    You notice though that the article has no quote of the Church actually saying that. What was quoted was that the _petition_ was not itself a tool of conversion. The line about not seeking to convert Catholics I suspect was a misinterpretation of the writer.

I know it was in reference to the petition. As for it being a misinterpretation, you may be right.
