Sustaind.org is sick. :( If you're a PHP programmer, can you help us upgrade Sustain'd and get it working again? If interested, email richard AT moregoodfoundation DOT org.

Taxes now must be paid on the Preston England Temple due to it being a building for private religious worship rather than public religious worship.

For all you demons...I mean lawyers... out there. (My darling wife is on a Charmed kick right now)

Does the whole government not making any law regarding religion clause in the constitution require that the USA give tax free status to religions? IE Could this happen in the US?

Hmm, I don't think tax exemptions are part of that concept. Rather, the tax exemption is given under the idea that religion is usually helpful to society as a whole.

I think the Church as a whole would have to lose its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status for similar changes to happen in the U.S., but I'm not sure. Tax law isn't my forte.

I've an idea: how about having religions (or non-for-profit groups in general) who accept monetary contributions do charitable work or contributions to a specific set of causes (feeding the poor, sheltering the homeless, etc.) in order to earn tax-exempt status? What do you think?
