Is Mitt Romney Serious?

Orson Scott Card discusses Mitt Romney, Hugh Hewitt's new book "A Mormon in the White House? 10 Things Every American Should Know about Mitt Romney," and unfair focus on Romney's religion by mainstream media and in popular discussion.

Ah, this is by far one of the best submissions to Sustain'd ever.

Card, a Mormon Democrat (who is more likely to vote for Obama than Romney), giving a great lesson to the Republican majority on how idiotic it would be to dismiss Romney only because of his religion. It also addresses the fallacy of going with the bru-ha-ha the mainstream media is raising against Mitt, and also the unreality of the whole Romney-is-Hinckley's-puppet pop theory floating out there.

Is Card a Democrat? I'm not being combative, just curious. I don't read much of his stuff, but the little I've read hasn't led me to the conclusion that he is now. Maybe years ago.

I believe Card is a democrat from a domestic policy point of view, not from a family values or foreign policy point of view. He considers himself a democrat because by very basic principles of foundation, but disagrees with the party often, leading others to often discredit his assertion. I think he is a Hugh Nibley type of democrat if that helps.

I'm happy this made it to the front page of Sustain'd at last. It is a very insightful article.

Me too. I read it a while ago, but didn't think to submit it. (Though I am getting tired of all the Romney-Mormonism articles.)
