PBS Film Likely to Cause Debate

Here is a little preemptive shot from the Church about the documentary,, which was never promised to be entirely favorable in its depiction. I think they may have a point about exploding myths and steroetypes not being in line with the focus on polygamy, or MMM for that matter.

It looks like the church is being proactive. I'm impressed. This is beyond the regular 'No Comment' PR the church has engaged in in the past.

I'm impressed.

Today one of the Bishopric told us about this. He said it would bring up topics like Polygamy, Same Gender Attraction, Mountain Meadows Massacre, and Declining Numbers.

I know this isn't a church ordained film but I think the church is OK with it coming out. ;to air some of the issues but not coming out of the church.

I believe the title of the film is "The Mormons", is it not? If the title were "21st Century LDS Church" maybe they'd have a better basis for complaining, but as long as the topic is as wide-open as "The Mormons", it seems illogical to expect the filmmakers to NOT deal with Mormons who are outside the LDS church or historical events within or without the Church that have become notable in Mormon history. I am looking forward to the show, myself.

Then again, we do have a copyright on that term. ;-)

And Michael Jackson holds the copyright on the Beatles' music...but it doesn't make him the only Beatle...or any Beatle for that matter. :)
