Mormon Olympians

"If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things" (Joseph Smith). The Olympic Games certainly foster praiseworthy achievements, and the gathering of diverse peoples from around the globe is heartwarmingly lovely.

L. Jay Silvester won a silver medal in the discus in 1964. I remember that he came to my elementary school and we saw the medal, and that would have been in 1968, because he was trying to qualify to go back. The funny thing is that I thought he was such an old guy, and he must have still been fairly young at that point.

I really like the site, but not even a whois search reveals who is behind it. Mysterious.

While the site looks very nice, it is woefully deficient in content. Past issues of the Deseret News Church Almanac -- available for 50ΒΆ or $1 in most DIs in Utah and on sites like Alibris and Abebooks -- has a much more complete list (if still missing a few Olympians). But this site doesn't list them nor does it give anyone a way to suggest them. As Willf suggests, the lack of a way to contact the owner is also a problem, and the inclusion of pages on Mormon beliefs makes this seem more like a misguided attempt to proselyte than a useful site.

If you are going to create a site, do it right!
