HBO has moved Big Love to Mondays starting June 11th. The same day the church sets aside for Family Home Evening.

In one of the trailers for the second season Bill, the husband of three wives, states. "I believe in the covenant of family. I believe in the covenant of plural marriage. I believe that family is the key to celestial heaven. I believe it is my duty to keep my family together on this earth, and I pray for the guidance to do just that.

Good, another excuse to not watch that retarded show.

Are there members that subscribe to HBO? I don't know any, but then I don't know many people in general. It just seems like it would be hard to subscribe and then avoid the sleaze they put on it at night. And with 10% of my income going to tithing, it is hard to justify spending money on a television station.

Speaking of sleeze, I am sure the church would much rather you spend your time with your butt plopped in front of KSL channel 5, the church-owned and operated television station, that brings you such wholesome programming as "Days of Our Lives" and "Passions" five days a week, and several varieties of "Law and Order", including SVU, which is one of the most explicit programs on TV today with its overly gratuitious depictions of sexually deviant criminal perversion and plenty of gore.

As soon as the church gets out of the TV business, then some of these complaints might have a leg to stand on. But one can hardly argue that a church-owned TV station ought to be broadcasting such smut as they do (Days of our Lives and Passions are way sleazier than Big Love).

By the way, with 10% of your income going to tithing, how do you justify spending money on internet access? ;-)

I am a new memeber, less than a year, and I have been learning alot, believe it or not, about the church from watching Big Love. Yes there is sex. But there is also Family, History, LDS Inside Jokes, LDS culture, etc.

It is really about family. Honestly.

trwth, good comment. It is about family. Bill loves his family and tries to do his best for them. He is a good man, and despite the dramatic elements that are required to make for a good tv show, his wives are all good ladies who love their family.

HBO has never pretended that the Henricksons are LDS. They are Mormon, yes, but not LDS. I don't see why people get so bent out of shape over Big Love. It is a TV show, that is loosely based on Mormons who happen to exist in real life as real people. It is no worse than most PG movies, and there is absolutely no swearing in it (all the characters are Mormon, remember!).

Any sex portrayed has been very brief. And their sex-related conversations are very tame, mild, and are nothing like the explict conversations that are on other TV shows that are faithfully watched by Mormons and even broadcast by the LDS church's own TV station.

I think so many people criticizing the show have never seen it and will never see it based on their own prejudices. Prejudice is after all, a great time saver. It allows us to form opinions without wasting time gathering facts!
